The SingFit Music Therapy Team: Making Music as Medicine Come to Life

Our new SingFit STUDIO platform, including our CAREGIVER and PRO apps required the work of a whole team of therapists, technologists and designers. Meet some of the music therapists at SingFit who have been instrumental in bringing this new platform to millions of older adults.


Andy Tubman Bio: As Chief Clinical Officer and Co-Founder of SingFit, Andy leads the team responsible for the clinical efficacy of SingFit solutions. A graduate of the Temple University Music Therapy department and Board Certified Music Therapist, Andy’s experience includes working with children, adults and seniors in a variety of settings, including in-patient care. He has a broad background in music therapy, with expertise in scaling practices in therapeutic music. Andy travels and consults with medical systems internationally on implementing music as medicine and is a frequent public speaker and expert on the intersection of music and health.

    • Andy prides himself on having the same eating habits as Kung Fu Panda

    • Likes to write songs and record albums

    • Likes to keep his feet in the sand as long as possible


Chelsea Brown Bio: Chelsea studied Music Therapy at University of the Pacific. She researches music therapy and digital health interventions and recently presented SingFit research at the Society for Digital Mental Health Annual Meeting. Chelsea is passionate about the ways music therapy can promote relaxation and stress reduction.

  • Fun Facts:

    • Chelsea really enjoys working on the SingFit algorithms to ensure that users see the right song at the right time for their health condition and goals. Chelsea likes geeking out about using data and technology to solve complex problems

    • On the weekends, you can find Chelsea packing her tent onto her Triumph Bonneville T120 motorcycle to go moto camping in the mountains

    • Enjoys playing her violin for her Pug. Sometimes he likes to chew on squeaky toys to 'play' along


Cara Smith Bio: Cara is a Board Certified Music Therapist, professional singer, and social entrepreneur who has studied music and its therapeutic wonders across many continents. Most recently, she traveled throughout East and Southern Africa researching community-based therapeutic music practices. She is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and the University of Pretoria in South Africa. Cara hopes her love for leadership, organization, and innovation may help more people engage with therapeutic singing.

  • Fun Facts:

    • When she’s not working on SingFit projects, Cara sings in a Goth rock band

    • Studied her Master's degree in music therapy in South Africa and has a published thesis about music therapy practices on the African continent

    • Before SingFit, she sang on cruise ships and was a children's entertainer (sing-a-longs with kids, princess appearances, etc). Cara still does kid's parties on occasion


Esteban Roa Bio: After graduating as a music therapist from Berklee College of Music, Esteban completed his clinical internship with SONO primarily working in the PICU, NICU, and oncology center at Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá and La Clinica de la Mujer. Afterwards, he completed his fellowship at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital where he co-authored an exploratory study on music therapy and perceived parental stress and received his certification in Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) from the Academy of NMT.

As part of the SingFit music therapy team the past few years, Esteban has trained over 900 SingFit certified facilitators, has led over 180 live webinars and has supported various projects including user testing for the new STUDIO platform. Apart from his work with SingFit, he specializes in creating therapeutic soundscapes around NYC that encourage self-discovery, community, and well-being.

  • Fun Facts:

    • Esteban enjoys hiking / walking in the park with his adopted dog Mowgli

    • He has a background in mindfulness and teaches meditation

    • His favorite artists at the moment are Jacob Collier and November Ultra
